what's the difference between knights and cops??

golbette:

I’m gonna make this easier for future anons: ‘Knights are basically cops’ is wrong. 'Knights are basically troops’ is way more accurate of an own and harder to break down.

Anyway.

What makes Knights cool, in purely fictional terms, is not the use of justified violence or objective moral goodness. This is what cops do, and it’s indeed a common modern fictional pitfall to make Knights do the same thing.

What makes Knights different is exploring themes of service and loyalty, not to an abstract 'State’ but to a specific person who’s cause is admirable, conflicts between one’s heart and one’s word. It is about eternally reaching for something - an ideal, a treasure, the acknowledgement or even love of a person you admire - only for it to warmly brush one’s fingertips before slipping out of reach once more.

Unlike cops, Knights fight other Knights, over ideals, over love, over misunderstandings or tragic circumstance. They cross blades in operatic bursts of violence who’s intimacy rivals that of lovers and with victories that are always bittersweet; for what else can the loss of an equal in skill and devotion be?

Do you get it, anon?

Knights are yuri.

Deer season is upon us.

1.) Wear your seatbelt.

2.) If your choice is swerve at high speed or hit the deer you plow Bambis mom like you’re an IT specialist with a secret Twitter account and it’s anthrocon weekend.

Deer are softer than trees. Deer are softer than rolling your car 8 times.

#don’t swerve #don’t brake #braking hard makes the front of the car point down and it makes it more likely you’ll scoop the deer up and put it through your windshield #take your foot off the gas and just drive straight (via @fierycavalier)

Be sure to use your high beams in the dark. The goal is to be able to see the deer early enough to slow down before they enter the road.

But if you don’t see them soon enough drive straight through and then pull over to calm down.

And adding to the above list: deer are softer than oncoming vehicles.

And wear orange if you’re out in the woods!!

the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.

a reddit reply by u/ShinyPinkRoses. text reads: "I have to assume YouTube thinks it can make even dedicated adblock users cave. Which is ridiculous, because my response to uBlock's filters being behind wasn't "guess I'll watch ads", it was "guess I'll take a nap." It was a pretty good nap."ALT

I think this person on reddit summed up the youtube adblocker situation perfectly. my reaction to this is not “oh man guess I’ll watch ads.” its, “well, I guess I’ll just do something more productive with my time.” I highly doubt any adblock user is going to willingly go back to watching ads. so what actually happens is youtube loses a functionally tiny amount of its userbase–because adblockers weren’t even losing them a significant amount of money in the first place(!)–and a bunch of adblock users move on to something else. what a fantastic waste of time and effort

To you rpf haters I say: I work with bands. I talk to band guys. They are aware of and accept the possibility of rpf and frankly, most of them yearn for the day they get their own ao3 tag. They view it as a badge of success, proof that they’ve “made it”. They already have their own ship names. If we let band guys vote on it, “rpf is fine” would win by a landslide.

And I’m not asking them about this by the way, they frequently bring it up themselves
